US deputy secretary of state on 3-day India visit; Afghanistan on agenda

United States deputy secretary of state Wendy Sherman, who is in India on a three-day visit, will be holding talks with foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Wednesday. The two officials are expected to discuss the recent political developments in Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover, and also hold key talks to take forward bilateral ties between India and the US.

The development comes nearly two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the US, held bilateral talks with President Joe Biden and discussed key areas of cooperation with Quad leaders, especially in relation to maritime developments and otherwise in the Indo-Pacific region.
