Uncertainty over next year elections if EVM not released

New Delhi: Uncertainty over the next year assembly elections in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand as the Election Commission moved to Supreme Court asking to release Electronic Voting Machine(EVM) and VVPAT used last year and this year state elections from the custody, which is kept safe inorder to review filing of election petitions.

As per the statute, the EVMs have to be kept untouched for 45 days, which is the time limit for the failed candidate to give appeal. After 45 days EVMs can be released to re-use in upcoming elections.
