Mangaluru: Veteran Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes passed away at a private hospital here on Monday. He was 80, family sources said.
He breathed his last at Yenepoya hospital in Mangaluru.Fernandes was hospitalised in July after suffering a fall while doing yoga at his house. He had also undergone a surgery to remove a clot in his brain.
Known as a trusted aide of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Fernandes had served as the union minister for transport, road and highways and labour and employment in the first UPA government. He also served as AICC general secretary.
